Mixed-media canvas for the birds and a card…

by admin

Hi!  Misty here, to share a couple of projects today using this months featured animal chipboard embellishments.

The kids and I have been making frequent zoo trips.  They recently got rid of the petting zoo section at our local zoo and replaced it with several bird exhibits.  It has become one of our favorite places, because the kids love feeding and interacting with them.   So this first project was inspired by the birds…

I used real tree branches and painted them because the brown looked a little harsh against the background.  Then I primed all of my birds with a light coat of gesso and then used different mediums to color them including, chalks, ink, paint, and pan pastels.  I then outlined the shapes with a waterproof pen, and finished them off with a layer of glossy accents.  I used the same technique on the feathered friends wordlet.  I then made some rolled roses and added them to the branches.

This is a little unusual but I really like how it turned out!   Its playful and fun, and I think it will look great on my nieces bedroom wall!

The next project I have to share is a simple card using the bees and hive chippy’s.

I gave everything more of a grungy antiqued look by rubbing on some gold leafing randomly over each piece and then finishing them up with some vintage photo distress ink.  Then I added a small lace tag and used tiny type stickers to spell out Bee-u-tiful.  I decided to go all the way with the bee theme, and tried my hand at using beeswax for the first time.  I still need some practice working with the wax but one things for sure…my embellishments will not be falling off any time soon!

Thats it for today! Thanks for stopping by, and don’t forget to link up below to show us what your doing with Scrap Fx products!
