Growing Up

Hi Everyone

It’s my turn to create a layout from the latest Steampunk release. There is so much to love in this release it was hard to make a choice of what to use but I jumped in and used the following products for my first project this month

Cog Stencil  – I loved this stencil, texture paste and ink blenders just glide over effortlessly

Grungy stars transparency– what is not to love about stars!

Chains Stamp – I think this is becoming my favourite stamp right now

Mechanical Bits – just perfect for my project!

I decided my background would be mixed media heavy and so started off by covering the patterned paper in clear Gesso to give some strength and then added white gesso to fade out some of the pattern on the paper. I created some texture by spreading’s texture paste through the Cogs stencil then used the packaging technique to spread water colour paints and ink sprays. Once this was dry I add more stencil work, this time using black, teal and green ink pads and a blending tool across the Cog stencil.

Once all this was dry I wasn’t done! I added more texture by using the Chains Stamp across all of the background area.

I continued to add texture and colour with ink splatters and the ink blending tool, it was hard to know when to stop!

While the background was drying I painted the Mechanical Bits in metallic gold,  once they were dry I realised I wanted them to have a grungier look to I added black ink to the edges and lightly over the entire piece.

To build the page I matted the photo and added stripes of paper and I found some punchella in my stash for some more texture as well. I popped the patterned paper and photo up with some craft foam to give some extra depth and dimension to the page.

I fussy cut out the stars from the Stars Transparency sheet and spread these and the mechanical bits around the page.

I continued to add splatters and added doodled circles throughout the page using a white paint pen.

I really love how this turned out!
