“Scrapping Neutral Colors and Organizing your Paper for quick access”

by admin

Hello!

Michelle here from Brooklyn, New York!

I was honored to be asked to return for a second term on this team.

I love Scrap FX chipboard and stencil products and how diverse they are in style.

I’m looking forward to the new year and all the cool new designs!

This month’s release was particularly fantastic!

This was the page I made for the Scrap FX mini blog hop. The elongated design for the "love" wordlets meant I was finally able to give water color ombre paint effects a try on chipboard.

This was the page I made for the Scrap FX mini blog hop. Swing by my blog to check it out- My Analog Life. The elongated design for the “love” wordlets inspired me to give water color ombre paint effects a try.

Lately I’ve been noticing a trend in my work- the use of whites and greys as backgrounds.

It started when I got a pack of water color paper to experiment with art journaling techniques.

I kicked the idea around for a few weeks but decided I would concentrate on Project Life instead.

What to do with all this grey paper?

I started with some pink paper, a Prima mask and some Maya Road mists in purple and Magenta. I didn't like how tha mark took over the entire page so I cut a few flowers out. I then added these to a background I had made before using the new scribble heart chipboard and viola- a page started to develop.

I then added individual stalks to a background I had made before using the new scribble heart chipboard and viola- a page started to develop.

A quick close up:

These smaller word titles are fantastic for Project Life. I love using them in my pages because they give the page meaning without taking over the photo or distracting from other elements on the page. Here I used mine to draw attention to the journaling which I thought was a bit small compared to the other embellishments on the page.

My ongoing scrap space reorganization project has also helped since I saw the same patterns and colors over and over again in my choices (It’s very rare that I buy an entire collection pack).

I decided to file all my paper in one long bin.

I have over three feet of loose paper! Kind of scary.

I will organize the files by manufacturer or by color at a later point (let’s be real- this will never happen- takes to long.)

I sorted through everything and pulled paper for the following folders: neutrals, red. yellow, black/white prints, Crate Paper, Sassafras Lass, grid patterns and woodgrain patterns.

I call these my “quickie” folders for when I need to make a page fast using papers I know I’ll love with any kind of embellishment.

This page came together in about 45 minutes once I organized my paper. I just grabbed from the "quicky" folders and used whatever scraps were lying around on my desk. Now that my daughter is 3 and a half my spare time is at an all time low- she wants to be part of EVERYTHING so the pages have to come together super quick while she's napping, playing or other wise distracted. I tried including her in the process- she thinks cutting paper is awesome- especially when it's already a finished page.

The new scribble frames are FANTASTIC!!! I LOVE all the designs- hearts, sentiment circles or these rectangles- they all ROCK! I also love the Playground number set because it has both large and small versions of each numbers with extra zeros, ones and twos.

Scribble heart, small model #2013043

Scribble heart, large model #2013042

Playground numbers model #2012304

Large Scribble heart model #2013042

Words of Love model #2013050

The word of love come attached in this funky frame- I LOVE that! It reminds me of when I was a kid and got new board games- my favorite part was punching the pieces out their frames.

The words of love design is actually still attached to it’s cutting frame- I LOVE that! It reminds me of when I was a kid and got new board games- my favorite part was punching the plastic pieces out their frames.

How about you?

Are there any work space organization tips you’d like to share?

I’m willing to try anything at this point!

Thanks for stopping by!
