Guest Designer – Yvonne Yam

by admin

Hello there chipboard enthusiasts! Greetings from sunny Singapore! My name is Yvonne Yam and I’m totally addicted to ScrapFX chipboard. Lightweight and dimensional with so many designs to choose from, I buy a ton every year I visit Australia. *winks* So, I was super excited when I was invited to be guest designer. 🙂

Project 1: An altered book

 Travel journal

I love altering books and making them into travel journals. They are handy to bring along on your vacation and sit very nicely on a bookshelf.

The background was created with wrapping texture, paint and gesso. I used Faber Castell’s Stamper’s Big Brush Pen to colour the chipboard.

 Travel close up two

I cut a window in the book cover and created a “scene” using the streetscape and cloud chipboard. I added some Golden glass bead gel for a sparkly finish.

I love how the ScrapFX chipboard adds so much interest to my project without creating unnecessary bulk.

Project 2: Layout – 100% boy behaviour

 Boy large

It is so hard to get a decent group photo with the 3 nephews always up to some mischief.

Boy two

But their antics always make me laugh out loud so I painted the chipboard with bright happy colours to reflect that. I added glossy accents and glass bead gel on the chipboard for a sparkly finish.

 Boy three

Love how the Rascal chipboard fits on the Road sign chipboard so nicely. 🙂

Project 3: Art journal page

 Rugged-journal-page

I recently started art journaling in old books. It is a great way to scrap random phone photos and test-drive new mediums. 🙂

I started by applying gesso on the book pages. Then created the background using the Artscape stencil and Maya mists.

I cut a window for my photo to create visual depth for the photo of my nephew. The Art Noveau tag, misted with silver mist, served as a frame.

 Rugged journal three

For this window, I used the Clouds and Raindrops stencil with blue Maya mist. The telegraph pole chipboard was misted with silver mist and the birds were painted in orange. A little random stamping for some texture and some rub-ons and I’m all done!

Hope you’ve enjoyed the projects I’ve shared and thanks so much to ScrapFX for having me here this month. If you would like to see more of my work, come visit me at my blog Do More With Less or my Facebook page.
