My Homestead by Scarlett

Hi There ScrapFX Fans!  Scarlett here today to share a glimpse of my frozen homestead with you.  Yep, while most of you have been trying to escape the scorching heat from what I hear, I’ve been snuggling up next to the fire inside my house to escape the negative temps we’ve been having!!  Nothing better to do in the cold then create though, right? Right. So I was finally inspired to use my Shadow Box Rectangular, small:

Shadow Box Rectangular, small

This box is so easy breezy to put together and really holds up to mediums, heat, and any number of items you would want to layer in or on it.

My creation turned out like this:

A winter wonderland complete with an elk representative of my kid’s school mascot and a portion of our town name.  Now for some closer looks and details of how this all came together.

The Retro Flowers Mini (2010275) are certainly a fav and here they played the role of snowflakes both inside and outside the box.  I dolled them up with some homemade glitter glue and added pearls along with translucent sequins.

The elk is from the Antler Animal pack (2012234) and I really love leaving these pieces bare with the exception of the antlers. Gotta add some bling!  Homemade gold glitter glue did the trick nicely here.  As for the Homestead (2012095) wordlet this is also decked out with a homemade concoction.  This time I made my own paint using pigment powders and brushed it over the piece.  Once that was dry I then used some Diamond Glaze and sprinkled with some Diamond Dust (glass glitter) to mimic ice.

The tree I used was actually from the Halloween release.  Its the Gnarly tree (2012265) and also came with some crows that are tucked away for later use.  Once it was coated with texture paste I used a mist dauber to give it some color and some Diamond Glaze for an icy effect as well as to hold some glass beads in place doe extra dimension and iciness.  Do you get the idea I’ve been freezing my biscuits off and really wanted this piece to convey it?

In this last shot I wanted to give you a peek at the box from a different angle to see all the different layers and elements going on.  Just a really fun project to make and will make a delightful addition to our home’s wall.

Thanks so much for joining me today on this frosty adventure.  I’m so looking forward to spring!  We got bombarded with more snow this weekend and have more coming this week…sigh.. the joys of living in Wisconsin, USA.

Take care, you stay cool and I’ll stay warm – lets all be sure to make time to be creative!!
