Having fun with Scrap FX Lanky Alpha

by admin

Hello there!

Today I want to share two cards I made for World Card Making Day using my favorite Scrap FX product:

Lanky Alphas! (Item number 2007012)

I have a difficult time with alphabet sets.

I find they are either too big and take over the page (especially if I use smaller photos); or too small and get lost in the design.

But, happily, neither is the case when using Scrap Fx’s totally  unique set.

Here’s the first card:

GLITTER! This card uses black glitter over PVA glue- a fast drying clear glue perfect for chipboard because it spreads easily but doesn’t sink in and disappear like other watery glues. Also, that Glitz hexagon print is TO DIE FOR! LOOVE!

A couple of no fuss, no muss tips for coloring chipboard.

1. Prima Ingvild Bolme chalk ink pads work spectacularly well.

I started dabbing Prima chalk in in Teal over the alphas when I realized I liked the half dipped look. I then used a white Souffle pen to add the highlight on the top half. The card is meant for a trend-loving teen cousin who loves her cat and Instagrams it constantly. I think she’ll really dig this.

I wanted a very saturated finish so I layered the color on but really 2 coats is fine

for full coverage; even super light colors like cream or pink are fine.

Gel pens work well but Sakura’s Souffle pens look FANTASTIC! I used white to highlight details on the spotted kitty from the Kitty Cats pack (item number 2012226)

2. Sakura’s Souffle gel ink pens are super easy to use for a slight embossed effect

without all the drama of powder and heat guns.

Also, the bright neon colors look AMAZING against the neutral chipboard base.

Here’s another quick close up:

These are GREAT alphabets for cards because they are tall and quite skinny. My fellow SFX teammates have dry embossed these to beautiful effect but I tend to be a last minute card-making type so it’s pens or stamp pads for me.

I LOVE the cheerful colors in that last photo!!! Teal looks fantastic against red- must remember that come Christmas!

Have a great rest of the week!
