Art Journal Pages by Elisa Ablett

by Elisa Ablett

Hello Crafters,

My turn up on the blog today with a couple of art journal pages, one vintage inspired and the other grungy.

Let’s start with how I created the background 🙂

I gesso’d the page firstly and added old book paper, torn into pieces. i then added layers of colours using Vintage photo, Spiced Marmalade and Walnut Ink Distress Inkpads, adding layer by layer drying in between.. I then added pops of teal using acrylic paint on the Wrought Iron Foam Stamp and Dina Wakely Gloss Spray. I also used a palette knife to scrap Gold texture paste to ease the harsh edges of the collage paper and make it blend into the background.

It’s essential to add shading, especially with the focal point on an art journal page. I love to use a black Stabilo all pencil.

The quote is by Art by Marlene and is just the right amount of snarky 🙂

My second page is totally different, no vintage but grungy pop!

The main focal point is the fabulous new Corrugated Woman & Co, instead of just using one, I added the same silhouette in a side by side design. I think it makes it pop!

To start the background I first used a coloured watercolour pen in a sweeping cursive, I wrote a few words then scraped Dina Wakely Gloss Sprays in blue and turquoise down the page. I added stamping with the Scribbled Words stamp, Dot Stamp and bubble wrap with acrylic paint on it.

I also used a fine black marker to add scribbles, splatters of ink to coordinate and stamped the number 2 (I love using numbers on grungy layouts).

I added masking tape and the quote along with black crosses I made with black stickers. I added white dots to the stickers to match with the circles made by the bubble wrap.

Let’s check out the close up!
