A Day at Sea World

by Scarlett

Hi Everyone!!  I’ve been working my way through pictures from a family vacation to Florida for oh….let’s see…. seven years!!  Yes, seven – I’ve got a hang up on scrapping travel photos in the traditional sense so it takes me a bit but ScrapFX has completely come to the rescue!

I started off with some patterned paper and decided to trace the Funky Checks Stencil (2012167) onto it. Once I had an outline I cut the pieces apart to use on my LO – instead of going with the funky checked look I opted for wavy strips.

The wide array of products from stencils to chipboard has given me unique options to create travel pages that document our trip and are a little less touristy looking – not that there’s anything wrong with touristy pages because I do some of those too – my preference is to have a bit a variety though like this page from our day at Sea World:

The wavy strips of paper became the foundation for my page and allowed me to tuck me photos amongst them – definitely going to try this again with waterless pictures.

I really love how this page uses some tourist type elements but doesn’t scream we’re on vacation, or maybe it does LOL.  The raindrops and clouds are symbolic of the daily FL rain we experienced – the droplets reminiscent of us sitting in the splash zone at the killer whale show – so much fun and really unbelievable what those animals can do!

Here you can see the water droplets and cloud created using the Clouds and Raindrops Stencil (2012169) – the cloud was made by misting through the stencil onto watercolor paper and cutting out – the droplets are gel skins I cut out once dry.

Before we actually made it to Sea World for the day we stopped at a gas station and an employee from the park was there as well.  I couldn’t resist taking a shot of the cutie lil’  VW all done up with dorsal fin and all, LOL!  I’m really glad my kids were at ages where hauling them over to it wasn’t a problem – I couldn’t even fathom what I’d have to bribe them with to do that now.

I cut apart the Sea World wordlet (2009163) and decked it out using paint, pouring medium, and gesso. The dolphins were painted separately with some metallic paint and then brushed with diamond glaze to give them a wet looking finish. The camera is from the Travel Embellishment Pack (2010190)(so many cute pieces in this set) – I painted it and added a clear bauble to mimic a lens. The ‘Details’ tag is from the Journal Notes White set (2012191) and rock my world!! I love the little perforated lines to write on and the cut out letters for all the words!!

Thanks for coming down memory lane with me today – what vacations (or staycations) are you working on scrapping??  Please tell me I’m not the only one so far behind – giggle!!

Until next time, take care and be sure to ‘like’ us on Facebook so you can partake in some fun challenges!
