Peek through Steampunk art journal page – plus some birthday layouts

by admin

Hi All,

I’m still playing with all the steampunk products from Scrap FX this month and I returned to my usual colours with a bit of a twist. I also got busy scrapping some of my youngest birthday photos as I realised her album is being sadly neglected!!!

First up we will jump into the art journal page. I love these keyhole designs and they are the perfect size to fit in the small 6 x 6 Dina Wakley journal for a quick page or two.

To do this I started off with adding reds, browns, olive green and golds to my pages and using a fairly watery brush to paint the colours around. I then used a stencil to wipe away the excess paint and reveal the patterns. I then used a variety of Scrap FX stamps to create texture in the background. I used brown and gold paint to stamp with, which is one of the benefits of using foam stamps.

I then drew around the outside of the keyhole silhouette lightly to give me an idea of where to cut my hole in the page. In hindsight – I wish I had already decorated the other side of the page first (as you’ll see in the video) as this would have made it much easier to match up. Then I inserted a thin cutting board and cut out my keyhole – slightly smaller than the outline so I had something to glue to the page. I then glued on the rice paper quote using some matt gel medium.

On the second page I used green paints to add a contrast element to the peek through page, and used the same stamps I used on the previous page. I then added some vintage text to the page to tie in with the theme, and I decided to keep with the writing and journal all over the green side of the page. Finally I used the art stencil with some gold texture paste to add a bit of bling to the page.

Here are some close ups of the pages in the journal, and below is a full process video so you can see the pages come together.

The next project I completed was two scrapbook pages for my youngest’s birthday. She was flipping through her album and I realised I was a ‘little’ behind of doing pages for her! So here she is in all her glory. Below the pictures is a link to the video documenting how both these pages went together.
