Playing with the new AMAZING rice papers!!!

by Niamh Baly

Hi all,

I am totally smitten with the newest member of the Scrap FX family – the collage rice papers! They are my jam and I am using them on everything at the moment. Here are two art journal pages I have been playing with using the beautiful girls.

The rice paper is thicker than other tissue papers – which means it is easier to cut, but it goes as translucent as the paper fibres are more porous – so win win. They have a very pop art feel – hence my inspiration from Roy Lichtenstein. To create the pages I layered up lots of different colours of acrylic paints and stencils over collage and stamping. I then pasted down the rice paper images using matt gel medium, both on the back and on the front. This helps to securely paste down the image, and make it more translucent so that you can see the images and colours in the background. I chose to colour the paper images using prismacolour pencils and they took to the paper beautifully as the paper has a slight tooth to it compared to norma tissue papers. To make the eyes stand out from the background and be a focal point, I used a fine paint pen to add in the whites of the eyes and the catch lights.

Below I have the links to the process videos explaining how each page was created from beginning to end. Please check them out, and make sure you subscribe to the Scrap FX youtube channel to see lots of other amazing projects as well.

Here are the Scrap FX products used in the pages featured.

Happy Creating,
