Pushing your personal limits

by MichelleH

Hello!

Michelle here,

I’ve been playing with abstract and random design as of late. Mostly because I want to try to push past my current skill level.

Questions like “Where I should put the photo?” and “What I should use to layer the design?” will usually make me walk away  from the scrap table in frustration and go read a book for a day (or two).

This:

I LOVE this woodgrain embossed paper! I used water color to paint the pink on since I didn’t have a container long and thin enough to make dipping the paper a good idea. I used Scrap FX Telegraph Poles (2009298) for this piece. Why? Cause they are awesome.

I love  the “dipping” trend in modern furniture design and house wares!

What in the world is “dipping”? It’s literally dipping chair or table legs (or perhaps a top edge) in neon or metallic paint so you get a hint of color without the whole screaming color vibe.

I like trying out new ideas so that was my main design direction for this page.

Since I’ve also enjoyed working with semi tranparent and mono-chromatic effects, I added some Maya Road ledger transparencies in white and some vellum stars I had punched for a previous project but didn’t use.

Some detail shots:

I like this configuration as a page all on it’s own. TWISTED!!!

The point wasn’t necessarily to get the design down perfectly- it was try to to push past my own comfort zone and expectations.

Thanks for stopping by!
