Happy Birthday!
by Misty
Hi! Misty here, to share a layout and card I made, using the newly released birthday chippy’s! There are so many fun pieces in this release that it was hard to choose which ones to use first!
I was browsing the web before doing this layout and saw a new sketch over at Once Upon a Sketch, and when I saw the theme for this month was birthdays, it just seemed meant to be! So I followed the sketch very closely to make this page. Its not my normal colors or style but I do like how it turned out.
Here you can see the beautiful wordlet “Pretty as a picture”. For this wordlet I just painted with a little gesso and then topped it off with some Martha Stewart glitter.
Here I’ve used the awesome Instant photo frames! Seriously, my favorites from the release! I love the fact that they have designs on them that you can keep and accentuate, or if you want a simple frame you can just apply a good layer of gesso and voila! For this particular frame I decided to keep with the pattern of the dots by adding bling over them. I also used the new flourish chippy above the frame and draped some tulle around it. It was originally white, but I used the same pink paint I used to make the crackled background and dyed the tulle to match. You will also see 3 of the small tags tucked away under the picture. I’ve journaled on the back of them.

In this pic I’ve used some of the cogs, that I can’t get enough of and have been hoarding for a project that I have in mind for the near future. I decided to give a couple up for this page though. I applied a thin coat of gesso and then some Tim Holts distress ink for the blue tint. I topped them off with some older style prima flourish and a handmade flower.
These particular candles were a little bigger than I expected. I’m horrible about verifying sizes but it worked out in my favor because they reminded me a lot of the candles in the sketch. I kept them simple and just used gesso and more glitter. For the “1st birthday” mini wordlet, I just used a small paintbrush and then painted them and added more of the glitter to make it more cohesive to the rest of the layout!

Now, I will have you bear with me and my card making abilities, as I share with you this fun card inspired (but not even comparable to) our very own Michelle Hernandez! She is such a trend setter and was one of the first I noticed using neon on her layouts and cards. I am a 90′s kind of girl so I do love that neon has made a comeback (I just really hope tight rolling our jeans don’t come back…or was that the 80′s? Oh, how time flies!)
I’ve used a lace craft tag and painted over it with gesso, while using some punchinella as a stencil. Then for the “Make a wish” wordlet I used some shiny neon acrylics in green and pink. I also outlined the tag and the holes detailing the bottom of the tag in the same neon pink used to paint the wordlet.

I love your work with chipboards and colors from your LO are stunning too!
Pretty page and funky cool card Misty!! Love the crackle background and selection of chippies on the page – way to use the cogs! I’m smitten with the colors you used on the card and love how they look on the make a wish wordlet!!
LOVE the weathered look of the background in those soft colors!! And the blingy polaroid frame is fantastic!!!! Great page!
SORRY! I have comment ADD- thank you so much for the compliment- I think you TOTALLY made the neon trend your own! the layer with the pink outline is a great idea- love that card!
