Inspired by Chippies, Flowers, and Feathers

by admin

Hi ScrapFX Peeps! Scarlett with you today to share my last projects for this month. First up a LO on wood canvas.

The moment I saw the Love This Kid chippie I knew I had to do a project with a goat kid on it. Yes I have two people kids I adore and love greatly, but again I have two and since this chippie is singular in nature my favorite goat kid born here at the farm had to be featured.

I’m normally not a big flower person when it comes to my creations, at least in the pre-made sense, not sure why since I have a large stash of them. It seemed the perfect time to use them for this project however and indeed I did. I also put to use some of my ScrapFX stamps to create other floral elements.

Stamping on vellum is a favorite technique of mine. I use Archival ink and the ScrapFX stamps lend themselves beautifully to be fussy cut. The Seed Stem Stamp, Small was heat embossed. Most flowers on this project were plain; a bit of sparkle and paint here and there jazzed them right up.

Here you can see the stamped flowers closer. Doesn’t embossing on vellum turn out beautifully? The background here was created using Black Lava through the Brick Stencil, as I did on a previous project. I enjoy the change up it gives to the patterned paper background. I have way more patterned paper than a reasonable person should, I must use it!, but I like doing my own little spin if I can. 😉

My next project is an art journal page.

I haven’t done a journal page in a good bit of time. I felt rusty but the desire to paint freely was strong. This is the beginning of my page: random paint swipes, brush strokes of color, stamping with ink using the new Grungy Brickwork Stamp, and adding a bit of texture by using heavy gesso to stamp with the Star Spangles Stamp.

The next thing I did to work on completing this page was to stamp the Doodled Feather Stamp. I wanted the feather to be unique in nature but not overdone. I decided to use VersaMark paired with mica powders. To do this I: stamped the image with VersaMark, brushed on mica powders, and heat set. The overall finish has shimmery finish throughout as you can see in the top portion of the picture.

This chippie is what inspired this page in my head, it works well for a journal page don’t you think? To alter it I: inked up the chippie with VersaMark, poured a bit of black UTEE on it, heat embossed, and rubbed gold paint over it to finish.

The completed page. It suits where I feel I’m headed on life’s journey right now. My heart is full and I’m ready to soar.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my latest creations. I’ll see you next month!
