Animal projects by Riikka

Hello there Scrap FX fans! It’s Riikka here to share my two animal projects with you. Usually I have something that connects the projects, but this time these are quite different. I made a layout celebrating my father’s new dog and then there’s a set of cards. The projects don’t have a similar color scheme or theme, other than the theme of the new release, but what they do have in common is the strong vision I had for both when seeing the new products.

Like I said, this layout is about my father’s new dog. She’s over a year now, but in the picture she’s still a puppy. The color scheme of the page came from her coloring – she has black, white and beautiful brown color. So I used the same palette in my page as the topic of it has!

I started the page with some watercolors and then added some stenciling and stamping there as well. I mixed items from the new collection to the existing ones – like using the paw stamp but also the seaweed stencil. On top I then layered some patterned papers and the photo and then used different chipboards to decorate the page. As they fit the color scheme as they were, I left them untreated.

This time I recorded a video to show you my process on the page. Hope you like it!

My other project is a set of cards. When I was looking at the silhouettes from the new collection, I could imagine them just like this – on a card with a monoprinted background. I made four cards using the silhouettes and making each one in a different color. There’s the primaries and then green.

For these two Nordic animals I used also script element on the background. The wolf also had a few pieces of white paper underneath the eyes and the nose so that the striking animal would be more visible. Otherwise the cards are all made up similarly – first making a monoprint piece of paper using Gelliplate and a number of different Scrap FX stencils and stamps and then layering the silhouette on top. Each of the cards also have a chipboard shape or two to finish the look.

Where as the Nordic animals were cold colors, these African ones are warm and vibrant. The giraffes got a red or orange background and the butterfly is mounted on yellow one. To keep the colors singing from the background I colored the chipboard shapes I used to decorate the cards black.

Thank you for stopping by today!
