Scrapping boys in black with Scarlett

by MichelleH

Hey There!

Scarlett with you today to share another quick and easy way to alter up a wordlet to work with on the next LO or project you create.

The Boys in Black wordlet intrigued me from the first time I held it in my hands – I loved the mix of fonts, the use of negative space, and the arrow.  Once I found the right picture I knew exactly how to spice up the wordlet without taking away from the charming design.

Step One: Paint the entire wordlet with black gesso/paint. Allow the piece to dry and then spray heavily with a mist of your choice.

Step Two: Outline the word boys and the arrow bubble with a white pen.

Step Three: Apply black lava to the word black with a paintbrush. You don’t need full coverage just enough to give some great texture. If you don’t have black lava no worries, use any texture paste you have on hand or you could pounce on some gesso. Allow this to dry completely.

Step Four: Adhere wordlet to the page.

The entire time I was working on this page my mind kept thinking about the movie Men in Black – ahh now you get the reason behind the alien in the above photo!!  I love how the Boys in Black ready made title gave me the inspiration to create a wedding page of my son when he was a ring bearer – a photo I would have otherwise never scrapped – but loved.

I had to cut this picture out so the only focus would be the ‘boys’ – it worked out so perfectly that the big guys had on sunglasses and my cheesy lil’ guy (now 15!! told you I wouldn’t have scrapped the photo without the wordlet inspiring me) was front and center. The wordlet pops so nicely on the page and I love the way the scalloped ScrapFX tag looks behind the alien!!

Have any of the love/marriage wordlets inspired to create something you may have otherwise left uncaptured??  I’d love to be inspired by you as well – be sure to leave a link I can come check out!!!

Thanks for stopping by!
