In the Mood for a Sketch – Group Post and Fan Challenge!

by admin

Hey There ScrapFX Fans!  We’re in the ‘mood’ to play with a sketch this month and the team thought it was about time we extended the challenge for you all to play along with us.

Welcome to the first group post challenge of 2014!

Its obvious we’re going to be working with a sketch but we’re also in the ‘mood’ to be inspired by a creative moodboard – you know how we love those around here. The following board was made up by our spectacular DT Coordinator, Michelle.  Check it out:

Beautiful spring theme, filled with golds, pinks & teals.  A touch of love, splashed with some sparkle, and sentiments of wanderlust.  Perfect inspiration launchpad for this time of year, right?

So, the first part of the challenge extended to the team was to be inspired by this board in some way while creating projects.

The lovely Claire created the above super cool sketch for us all to work and this became the second portion of the team challenge.  Use the sketch as the basis for creating.

With the two components of the challenge in place, new releases in hand, everyone was set to work.  Ready to see what the first round of girls came up with??

Grab your cuppa’ and enjoy!

Cute as can be - Anita Bownds April 2014 Scrapfx dt (1)

Anita has captured the essence of the mood board gorgeously with her sweet kitty page and by turning the sketch on its side.  She used various colors from the board and all her fussy cut flowers really enhance the spring theme delicately and beautifully.  Her additions of mist splatters and bits of sparkle play so well to not only enhance her design but match the board’s spray of splatters also.  She even managed to add some birds, perhaps that is why this little kitty is looking a tad mischievous? Distraught?  LOL.

Here you can see the amazing color job Anita did on her wordlet.  She has really been rockin’ the multi-tone effect lately.  The subtle shades are magnificently done – just enough color to notice the changes.  In the background here you can also notice how Anita used the Damask Stencil as white on white texture.  This is another subtle stunning addition to her page.

Cindy has created an outstanding monochromatic page choosing to stick with the sketch the way it was presented and focusing on the teals from the mood board.  She has done this in a royal way by utilizing the Peacock Feather Stencil to create a marvelous textured border for her page.  The peacock inspiration surely came from the mood board image as did the theme of love which she has carried throughout.

Here you can see that love theme represented in the photo Cindy has chosen which so closely mimics the image on the mood board.  I seriously don’t know how she finds all these photos that match up with chippies and images – ha! Really neat. She has chosen an arrow chippie, and added a bit of torn and roughed up netting to it, to make sure the viewer of the page knows this is the main attraction.

Cindy continued to add netting to her chippies here on all her words and lettering.  It is such a cool look, don’t you think?  I love the consistency and flow this provides from the arrow over to this portion of her page too.  I’m also really diggin’ the way she set up her words here.  I’m thinking she was inspired by the little poster word art on the mood board and put her own spin on it.  It is really quite lovely and shows how interpretation can lead to beautiful twists.

moments of joy- Renata

Renata’s page is delightful burst of spring featuring lots of pink with pops of other color.  Here is what she had to say about her creation:

“Inspired by the pastel colors of the mood board I created a soft background using white spray mist and the Numbers Collage Stencil giving a soft shadow on the paper.

I love the color combo and I used those colors on my layout too.
When I look at the image I see the overlayers  and I tried to recreate those layers using papers and foam tape to give volume to the page and  following the sketch.
Some black chipboard to add a contrast and the page is done!”
She makes it all sound so effortless, huh?  Yet if I tried to recreate her style I’m not so sure the outcome would be so breathtaking.  😉
Details moments of joy
Here you can gaze at some of the lovely details Renata puts in to her work.  The black chippies have become her signature of sorts around here and they are always so striking on her pages.  On these pieces you can see she has splattered them just wee bit to give some more visual interest.  I really adore how the wordlet turned out – looks so pretty with the white splatters.
