Its Beginning to Look Like Christmas

by admin

Hi Everyone!  Scarlett here today and I can hardly believe we are on the major countdown to Christmas.  Here in my neck of the woods we have snow covered trees, rosy cheeks, and a warm fire going.  I’ve also decked my halls ScrapFX Christmas style and thought I’d share some festive creations with you.

This is a 6×6 canvas featuring the Nativity Scene, Shaker Dome (2013267).  I must admit it was one of my favorite Christmas pieces because it gets at the core of the true meaning for the season.  I altered it by using some acrylic paints, both regular and metallic, and then added the scripture verse using a white gel pen.  I kept the rest of the canvas simple and earthy because I really wanted to showcase this beautiful piece.

Next up is an ornament also featuring a shaker dome.  This time I used the super cute and fun Surfing Santa (2013266).

I altered the chipboard by using a variety of mediums including: colored gel medium for the water, gel pens for the Santa, metallic paint for the outer portion of the dome, and UTEE for the base of the dome.

To turn the ornament in to a working shaker I added vellum over patterned paper to seal up the back of the piece and a piece of transparency film over the front.  Before I sealed the shaker completely closed I filled it with some sequins and sand dollar pieces I had in my stash.  To finish the ornament off I gently poked a hole in the top and threaded some wire through to create a loop to hang it up with.

The final project I have to share with you today is the cover for my December album.  As you know I Project Life and since December is such a special time of year I decided to go with the flow so many are following and create an album for the month.

The cover follows many of the same techniques I highlighted in the Joy Tags tutorial posted here.  I loved the look so much I had to create it for myself and going large with it proved to be rather gorgeous.  Then I layered on some delightful ScrapFX chippies all glitzed up, along with a sprinkling of sequins, and a few other other items and called it done.  I think this was the quickest and easiest album cover I’ve ever made and one of my favorites.

I’ll be sharing with you some of my inside progress later in the month but I do hope you’re inspired to perhaps start one of your own – its never too late to capture all the magic December holds – and no I’m not worried about nor taking daily photos.  Epic failure with that last year taught me to just delight in season!

Which is precisely what I hope you and your family are doing!
