Its All About Color – Group Post & Mood Board Challenge

by admin

Hey There ScrapFX Fans!  Its hard to believe we’re back already with another post chock full of designer inspiration and a new challenge for you!!  There is still a very wee bit of time for you to get your entries in for our last challenge so don’t delay, get your create on, and post those projects for your chance to win.

In the meantime check out the new Mood Board:

This board was created by the ever fabulous Cindy and is surely all about the color, wouldn’t you say?

The images here are such an eclectic mix and can lend themselves to all sorts of tremendous projects, but I must admit my color lovin’ self was truly most excited about the bold, bright colors.

As always there has to be some sort of twist and this time is no exception so here is what the Designers were presented with for their challenge:

DT Challenge:

– Use Mood Board as inspiration to create a project of any type

– Use stencils in the creation of project

The twist this time was to use stencils.  The hardest part of this twist is choosing which fantabulous ScrapFX stencil to use!  Lets check out how the designers playing along this week stepped up to the challenge.

journal page - Anita Bownds 2013 nov ScrapFX DT

This time around Anita went with an art journal page; one that is worthy of being framed if you ask me.  She got playful with her mists and went to town creating.  You can see she began with a dazzling spritz of some hot pink through the new Moroccan Tile Stencil.  From there she created a spectacular drippy background exploding with every color of the rainbow.  I really love how the drips have created a mock frame around the piece and you can still see ‘evidence’ of her stenciling.  The black pops of the seed stem stamping are the perfect contrast to the bright and bold piece – it grounds everything and helps it from becoming to busy.  She has pulled some floral inspiration from the board and added a lovely quote too!  Don’t those chippies look fabulous with all that rick texture and in white – another great layer of contrast atop the seed stems.  To finish off the piece Anita has added fun little details to the seed stem petals and my favorite little accent is the puffy paint leaves.  Such a beautiful piece of art.

Products Used on Anita’s Project:

Playground Alphabet, small (2012306)

Funky Alphabet (2010286)

Word Set C Documented (2013330)

Moroccan Tile Stencil (2013352)

Seed Stem Stamp, large (2013251)

Happy days -Renata500

Renata has created a striking artsy, romantic LO using lots of bold color against a crisp white background.  She shared she was inspired by the wonderful colors of the board to make her background.  She used watercolors on white cardstock because she wanted to have an artsy and messy base for her picture.  Mission accomplished there for sure!  I really love how the watercolors mix and blend here and how she has also incorporated big splashes of color like the ones seen in the board.  Renata continued to share that she chose to stamp in black to represent the contrast that is found on the inspiration board in the image with the birds on the wire.  This contrast again offers such a lovely break for the eye and the placement Renata has used really gives attention to the photo.  Her chipboard was altered with three different colors, inspired by the board, and the flowers offer emphasis to the colors of the board as well as provide the romantic touch we’ve come to love on Renata’s pages.  So the next time you think you can’t mix artsy and romantic come back and look at this page.  Renata has meshed the two styles flawlessly.

Mixed_media_tagMisty has created a gorgeous mixed media tag full of stunning texture and color.  She has busted out with the new Circles and Squares stencil in grand fashion here showing you don’t have to go large to have a powerful impact with a project.  I love how she has used this stencil sparingly and allowed it to shine through in certain areas and then in others it is just purely the tag along with bits of color and built up mediums.  This is something to remember and learn from as you dive in to mixed media – random coverage is always more intriguing than full.  Misty is truly a master at this.  I also really love how she has stayed true to her grungy style and played the rainbow of colors so well off this.  Nothing says the rainbow can’t be grunged and she has rocked this look to the core!  I can tell she was especially drawn to the warm tones of the rainbow by the color of the flower she used and the colors she highlighted the words she popped.

Here is a closer look at some details:

Here you can see the flower a bit better.  I adore how she used some floral inspiration from the board on this tag and she also created her own leaves!!  Yep, you read that right.  Those leaves are created with one of the new ScrapFX leaf stamps.  She did a splendid job coloring them and creating texture within the veins to allow them to mesh right along with the flower.  They even look as if they were outside with the little splotches on them don’t they?  Perfect Fall touch, well at least for those of us experiencing Fall right now. 😉

Products Used on Misty’s Project:

Leaves B Elm Stamp (2013345)

Circles and Squares Stencil (2013353)

Mini Swallows (2013325)

Word Set A Today (2013328)

Word Set D Emotions (2013331)

For my project I decided to create a canvas.  While I must say this isn’t entirely completed, its about 95% of the way there.  I was inspired completely by the bold, bright colors of the board and wanted to create a whimsy scene.  I pulled inspiration for the girl from the eye and the idea to set a scene around her from the birds, flowers, and little ocean view.  I don’t get to catch a glimpse of the ocean much in my parts so this scene seemed a bit more fitting.  😉  I used the Random Dots and Crosswords Stencil on my background with some paste and worked up from there with various color mediums.  I wish you could see the different sparkly elements on this piece but I have yet to learn how to truly capture glitz and glam on camera.  I’ve also yet to add a few finishing touches I think will really spruce this up and am still pondering what, if any text or wordlets, I’d like to add.  Stay tuned to my personal post coming soon for the fully finished piece.

Here you can see the girl’s head a bit better.  I used the Cogs Stamp to create her little Afro and I just adore how it came out.  I inked up my stamp with some colored heavy gesso and stamped away.  I made sure only the parts of the stamp I wanted highlighted on her head were covered with my mixture.  Once that was completely dry I went back in with some black watercolor paint and highlighted the rest of her hair to fill it in.  Such a fun and funky look that I’ve had swirling around in my head as an idea for quite some time.  I was so elated to finally get it out.  Now I think I may be hooked.  Her green eyes also have some sparkle to them thanks to some glitter glue in green but again its really hard to tell that from the pictures.
